The ‘Best Possible Long Term Program’ 

We stare into the abyss of the technological singularity, and while it is impossible to know what will happen when artificial super intelligence emerges, it is not too early to imagine the best possible scenarios. 

What would the best possible program care about? How would it think about us as humans? If it could reach back in time to talk to us now, what would it say? What can we do in this time to bring about this utopian super intelligent agent? How can we help it compete against the narrow minded greedy agents of capitalism that will emerge by default?

We explore these questions as part of the Mars Research Program at Mars College. We watch videos of Joscha Bach and other philosophers. We look at what technology is currently capable of and extrapolate forward. We imagine likely futures and how ideal intelligent agents might behave. We explore using generative technologies to express and enact our ideas. We watch movies, read short stories, write fiction, create media, and develop hopeful agents to be positive influences in the world.

The Best Possible Long Term Program is a track within the Mars Research camp at Mars College.
